The Deadline That Changes the Room
Session 8 opened with the one detail that changes everything about how a room approaches an assignment: whatever gets built today gets pitched live, to real judges, in five weeks. Every student picked a venture, real or hypothetical, and started building the actual structure behind it instead of just describing the idea.
"I'd been telling people about this idea for months. Having an actual date made me finish the plan in one class."
Registration, Not Just Inspiration
We walked through what it actually takes to register a business in Arizona: choosing a structure, separating personal and business finances, and understanding the basic bookkeeping that turns a side hustle into something a bank, or a judge, would take seriously.
The Ventures in the Room
What students are building spans resale businesses, tutoring services, small design and content work, and a few first attempts at physical products. The range was the point: the curriculum doesn't care what the venture is, it cares whether the plan behind it actually holds up.
The Owner Mindset, Specifically
The shift from employee to owner isn't a slogan here. It's a specific set of decisions: how to price something so it actually covers cost, how to separate what the business owes from what the owner is owed, and how to plan for a slow month without panicking.
What's Next
Session 9 shifts back to personal finance: renting versus buying, car loans, and the real decisions that quietly define your twenties.
