Session 6: Jobs You've Never Heard Of (That Pay Well)

Financial planner. Investment banker. Actuary. Fintech product manager. A career panorama through finance jobs most students never hear about.

Careers Nobody Puts on a Career Day Poster

Session 6 opened with a simple exercise: name every finance-related job you can think of. Most rooms get to three: banker, accountant, maybe stockbroker. Then we put twelve more on the board: actuary, underwriter, financial planner, credit analyst, fintech product manager, compliance officer, wealth manager, and more, each with a real starting salary range next to it.

"I didn't know half of these jobs existed. I definitely didn't know they paid what they pay."

A Panorama, Not a Pitch

This session isn't a recruiting pitch for finance. It's exposure. A student who's never heard of a role can't self-select into or out of it. Naming twelve careers a room has never heard of is worth more than deeply pitching the one everybody already knows.

What Gets Someone in the Door

For each career, we broke down the actual entry point: what degree or certification is typically required, what an entry-level role looks like day to day, and what the realistic first five years look like in terms of salary growth. Students left with at least one career they hadn't considered, matched to a real number.

12+
finance-related career paths covered in a single session, most of which most students had never heard named out loud before.

What's Next

Session 7 covers taxes: reading a real pay stub, understanding W-2s and 1099s, and finally separating what you earn from what you actually keep.
